In the month of July, I travelled to the country of India for some much needed vacation and relaxation. During my stay in India, I become once again acquainted with my roots and culture. This visit was rather unique, however, because for the first time, I began to appreciate the beauty of the place from which my parents came from. In this diverse country, the hospitality, the rich history and culture, the stories, the chaotic organization of the street traffic (yep), various traditions and customs, are just the tip of the iceberg. There’s always something interesting to do or see in this country, but the unique part about India is the livelihood and exuberance in all aspects of daily life. You feel loved and accepted by all those around you the moment you set foot in India. Relentless kindness, importance of spiritual being, and a happy and go-easy disposition are usual in this country. Also, the hospitality is something I never forget about this place, and will learn from and carry with me as I journey through life. No matter what walk of life the person is, it is custom to make your house hospitable for guests. These virtues and customs keep me wanting to come back to visit and learn from the culture. While the culture back home is focused on jobs and the improvement of career, in India people really do have an appreciation for the beauty of life. There is a common sense of hope and gratitude. These are among the many things that I truly miss and I try to apply to my life back home in the US.
